Volgograd’s agricultural sector has once again proven its strength, with experts confirming that 50% of the region’s wheat harvest qualifies as third-grade food grain, known for its high quality. According to data from the Volgograd branch of the Federal Center for Agricultural Product Safety and Quality Assessment, the latest harvest stands out in terms of both gluten and protein content—key factors in determining wheat quality.

Exceptional Grain Characteristics

The third-grade wheat from Volgograd boasts:

  • Gluten content ranging between 23-27%, critical for baking performance.
  • Protein levels between 12.8-15%, exceeding basic nutritional benchmarks.

Moreover, two exceptional batches recorded gluten levels at 31% and protein content at 16.8%, highlighting the region’s ability to produce premium-quality wheat.

State Monitoring and Testing

In 2024, over 4,000 applications for state monitoring were submitted, covering nearly 3 million tons of both hard and soft wheat harvested in the region. This comprehensive testing underscores Volgograd’s commitment to maintaining high standards in agricultural production and ensuring the competitiveness of its wheat on both domestic and international markets.

Applications of Third-Grade Wheat

Third-grade wheat is highly valued for its versatility and efficiency in food production. It is commonly used to produce:

  • High-quality flour for bread and pastries.
  • Confectionery products, pasta, cereals, and flakes.
  • Improving agents for blending with lower-grade grains to enhance overall quality.

Its versatility and high nutritional content make it a cornerstone of the agricultural economy, ensuring its place as a premium commodity in global markets.

Volgograd’s 2024 wheat harvest demonstrates the region’s dedication to quality and sustainability in agricultural production. With its premium third-grade food grain accounting for half of the yield, the region not only strengthens its position in the domestic market but also boosts its export potential. These achievements reflect a broader trend of innovation and quality assurance in Russian agriculture, benefiting farmers and consumers alike.
