Wheat Procurement Begins in Himachal: MSP Set at ₹2,425 to Boost Farmers’ Incomes
As part of its continued efforts to strengthen rural economies and ensure farmers receive fair market value for their produce, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced the start of wheat procurement for the 2025 Rabi marketing season, setting the Minimum Support Price (MSP) at ₹2,425 per quintal.
The move is aimed at not only stabilizing market prices but also empowering small and marginal farmers, who form the backbone of Himachal’s agrarian economy. The wheat procurement operation is being carried out through 11 designated centers across key districts in the state, with oversight by the Himachal Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation.
Digital Registration and Direct Payment System
To ensure transparency and efficiency, the procurement process is now integrated with a digital registration and verification system. As of April 1:
- 251 farmers have registered on the official procurement portal.
- 162 registrations have already been verified.
- 65 farmers have successfully generated sale tokens, allowing them to sell their wheat crop at designated centers.
Payments to farmers will be transferred directly into their bank accounts, eliminating middlemen and ensuring quick, traceable transactions. This digital shift reflects Himachal’s commitment to modernizing its agricultural marketing practices.

The following 11 centers are now active for wheat procurement:
- Dhaula Kuan
- APMC Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur
- APMC Rampur
- Market Yard Nalagarh
- Market Yard Takarla, Una
- Malpur Baddi, Solan
- Milwan Indora
- Grain Market Fatehpur
- Rihali
- Nagrota Bagwan
- Vegetable Mandi Baijnath, Kangra
These locations have been strategically selected to ensure easy access for farmers across various regions of the state.
Wheat in Himachal Pradesh: Local Impact, National Role
While Himachal Pradesh is not among India’s top wheat-producing states like Punjab, Haryana, or Uttar Pradesh, wheat still plays a critical role in local food security and farm incomes, especially in mid- and lower-hill regions. The MSP and structured procurement system help shield farmers from volatile market prices, providing a predictable income.
Nationally, wheat production for 2024-25 is estimated by the Ministry of Agriculture at 115.3 million metric tonnes, a record high. Himachal’s participation in structured procurement contributes to stabilizing national supply chains and improving grain availability for public distribution systems.
The initiation of wheat procurement at an MSP of ₹2,425 in Himachal Pradesh is a vital step toward improving the economic well-being of rural communities.
