Many gardeners aspire to harvest homegrown sweet corn, but in regions with short or cool summers, achieving a full crop can be challenging. Selecting early-maturing varieties is essential to ensure a successful harvest before the season ends. Here are three corn varieties well-suited for shorter growing seasons:

  1. Early Sunglow
    • Maturity: Approximately 62 days from planting to harvest.
    • Description: This yellow sweet corn variety is known for its outstanding vigor under cooler conditions, permitting earlier planting. The plants produce tender 7-inch ears with excellent flavor.
  1. Trinity
    • Maturity: Around 68 days.
    • Description: A bicolor sugary-enhanced (se) variety, Trinity offers a sweet and tender kernel. Its relatively short maturity period makes it suitable for regions with shorter summers.
  1. Earlivee
    • Maturity: Approximately 58 days.
    • Description: One of the earliest maturing yellow standard (su) cultivars, Earlivee is ideal for gardeners seeking a rapid harvest. Its quick growth cycle allows it to mature even in the shortest of summers.

By choosing these early-maturing corn varieties, gardeners in regions with brief or unpredictable summers can enjoy the satisfaction of a bountiful sweet corn harvest.
