In a significant development for the agricultural sector, a new complex dedicated to the storage and transportation of grain is being constructed in the Marksovsky District of Saratov Oblast, alongside the Volga River. The project, initiated by a major grain supplier, aims to revolutionize the logistics of grain transportation by enabling river-based shipments, providing an efficient alternative to traditional overland routes.
According to Alexander Marchenko, the Minister of Investment Policy for the Saratov Region, the complex will include a state-of-the-art, robotized floor storage facility capable of holding up to 3,000 tons of grain. Additionally, the facility will be equipped with a loading bay and a conveyor gallery that directly feeds into the ships docked at the new pier. The total investment in the project amounts to 150 million rubles, with completion expected by the end of 2024.
Currently, the storage facility has already been constructed, and work on the conveyor gallery is underway. Once operational, the project is expected to create 20 jobs, boosting the local economy and providing a steady source of income to the surrounding agricultural community. The complex is also anticipated to attract large-scale exporters, further amplifying its significance for the region’s agricultural economy.
The project is part of broader efforts by Saratov’s regional administration to support agriculture through infrastructure investment, thereby increasing the capacity for grain exports. With the Volga River offering a natural transportation route, this new complex will significantly reduce logistical costs and increase the competitiveness of local grain on both domestic and international markets.
