Market Recap

The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged by two percent, contrasting with subdued movements in grains and oilseeds. Here’s a breakdown of key price changes:

  • Chicago Wheat: Decreased by US1 cent to US555.5c/bu
  • Kansas Wheat: Dropped 5.25c to 567c/bu
  • Minneapolis Wheat: Fell by 4c to 597.25c/bu
  • MATIF Wheat: Increased by €0.25/t to €222.50/t
  • Corn: Rose by 4.5c to 408.75c/bu
  • Soybeans: Up by 3.25c to 1043.25c/bu
  • Winnipeg Canola: Climbed by C$5.70/t to C$621.20/t
  • MATIF Rapeseed: Rose by €1.75/t to €472.75/t
  • ASX Wheat and Barley: Mixed movements, with wheat down A$6/t to $338/t and barley unchanged at A$303.90/t
  • AUD Dollar: Declined by 26 points to US$0.6734

International Developments

  • Wheat Markets: GASC (Egypt) and Jordan made substantial purchases, stabilizing offshore wheat markets. GASC procured 770k tons, predominantly Russian wheat.
  • US Weather: Severe storms in Illinois and eastern Iowa caused concerns over potential crop damage.
  • Global Trade: Algeria and Thailand issued tenders for milling and feed wheat, respectively, for shipments from September onwards.
  • Russian Grain Exports: SovEcon estimated July exports at 3.4Mt, with wheat exports declining compared to June figures.
  • Soybean Trade: China remained active in soybean markets, sourcing predominantly from Brazil amid competitive pricing and ample supplies.
  • Commodities and Currencies: Gold prices surged to record highs amid safe-haven demand, while oil prices continued a downward trend due to economic uncertainties.

Australia Market Update

  • Western Australia: New crop canola prices declined further, with similar trends seen in wheat and barley bids.
  • Eastern Australia: New season canola and wheat prices also faced declines, while GM canola prices remained stable.
  • Weather Impact: Beneficial rainfall in parts of Victoria, New South Wales, and Southeast NSW provided relief amid market uncertainties.
