Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Identifies Non-compliant Coffee Products
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) has announced that 19 brands of roasted coffee have been disqualified due to the presence of foreign materials and impurities exceeding the limits set by the current legislation, specifically Ordinance No. 570.
The products deemed unsafe for consumption must be recalled by the responsible companies. This action is supported by Article 29-A of Decree 6.268/2007, which mandates recalls in cases of public health risk, adulteration, fraud, or product falsification.
This risk alert is part of the developments from Operation Valoriza, which included inspection activities nationwide between March 18 and 28, 2024. During this period, 168 coffee samples were collected.
Consumers who have purchased these products are advised by MAPA to stop consuming them immediately and can request a replacement in accordance with the Consumer Defense Code. Furthermore, if consumers find any of these brands being sold, they are asked to report it via the official Fala.BR channel, providing details of the establishment and address where the product was purchased.
The inspections of roasted and ground coffee in the domestic market are conducted by the Department of Inspection of Plant-Origin Products of the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense. MAPA reaffirms its commitment to food safety and the quality of products offered to consumers and will continue to act vigilantly throughout Brazil to curb irregularities in roasted and ground coffee, ensuring the integrity and trust of consumers in the coffee industry.
