Russia’s Krasnodar Krai continues to strengthen its position as a key grain exporter to China, with over 415,000 tons shipped since the start of 2025, according to the Southern Interregional Administration of Rosselkhoznadzor (Russia’s agricultural watchdog). The majority of these shipments passed through the Novorossiysk seaport, the country’s largest grain export hub.

Key Export Data

  • Total shipments: 552 grain consignments
  • Main exported crops:
    • Dried peas: 275,000 tons (66% of total exports)
    • Flaxseeds: 102,300 tons
    • Oats: 3,600 tons
  • Phytosanitary compliance: All shipments underwent strict laboratory testing to meet China’s import requirements.

Growing Demand for Russian Grain in China

China remains one of the largest importers of Russian agricultural products, with grain trade volumes steadily increasing. According to recent reports from the USDA (2025), China’s demand for protein-rich crops like peas and flaxseeds is rising due to livestock feed and food processing needs.

Novorossiysk’s strategic location on the Black Sea allows efficient logistics, making it a preferred port for Asian-bound shipments. Additionally, digital phytosanitary certification (11 e-certificates issued in 2025) has streamlined export procedures, reducing delays.

Krasnodar Krai’s grain exports to China highlight the region’s critical role in global agricultural trade. With strong demand for peas and flaxseeds, coupled with efficient port operations and digital certification, Russian farmers and exporters are well-positioned to expand their market share in Asia. Continued investment in logistics and compliance will be key to sustaining this growth.
