As of March 7, Hebei province’s winter wheat is progressively entering the greening phase from south to north. To support this critical growth period, the provincial, municipal, and county-level meteorological departments have strengthened collaboration with agricultural technology extension agencies. This joint effort focuses on reinforcing early warning systems, refining response plans, and promptly issuing disaster prevention and mitigation technical advisories to ensure the healthy development of winter wheat.

The past winter and current spring have been characterized by higher-than-average temperatures in Hebei, leading to unique climatic conditions. Consequently, there is an elevated baseline of pests and diseases in the fields, indicating a trend toward more severe occurrences. To minimize potential harm and safeguard food security, the Provincial Meteorological Bureau has organized agrometeorological experts to conduct field monitoring of temperature fluctuations and soil moisture levels. In collaboration with agricultural technology departments, they have issued the “2025 Spring Field Management Technical Recommendations for Winter Wheat in Hebei Province,” providing targeted guidance to farmers.

In Renqiu, the collection of sample data for satellite remote sensing assessments of winter wheat distribution was completed on March 14. Meteorological staff conducted data collection at six randomly selected uniformly planted winter wheat sites, accurately recording the latitude and longitude using global positioning system devices and simultaneously capturing images of the surrounding environment. These satellite remote sensing monitoring data will support wheat spraying meteorological services and technical guidance in the future.

In Shenzhou, on March 12, the Shenzhou Meteorological Bureau, in conjunction with the Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, dispatched technical personnel to Nanhuanglong Village’s high-standard farmland for on-site services. They guided large-scale grain producers on how to access meteorological service products and real-time weather information through the WeChat public account. Farmers were advised to postpone herbicide spraying to avoid potential frost and chemical damage.

Hebei province’s multifaceted approach to winter wheat management—encompassing technological training, enhanced monitoring, and proactive advisories—demonstrates a robust commitment to agricultural resilience. By integrating meteorological insights with agronomic practices, the region aims to mitigate risks and promote optimal crop health during the crucial greening stage.
