Highlighting Partnerships and Programs for Enhanced Food and Nutrition Security

On September 1, 2024, India launched National Nutrition Week (NNW) with this year’s theme, “Nutritious Diets for Everyone,” emphasizing the importance of tailored diets to meet nutritional needs throughout life. During this important week, HarvestPlus Solutions (HPS) and Yara India are showcasing their collaborative efforts in promoting sustainable agricultural practices that not only boost crop yields but also enhance the nutritional quality of the produce.

HarvestPlus India is at the forefront of addressing hidden hunger and strengthening food and nutrition security through various impactful programs. These initiatives include:

  • Nutrition Education and School Feeding: Implementing educational programs and school feeding schemes to improve nutritional awareness and access to healthy foods among children.
  • Empowering Women Farmers and Protecting Pregnant Women: Supporting women farmers with resources and training, and ensuring the nutritional needs of pregnant women are met.
  • Developing Climate-Resilient, Micronutrient-Rich Staple Crops: Breeding and promoting crops that are resilient to climate change and enriched with essential micronutrients to combat nutritional deficiencies.

Notable programs under HarvestPlus India include the Health and Nutrition for School-Age Children (HaNSA) program, the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), the Nutri Pathshala Model, and the Bihar and Odisha Nutrition Initiative (BONI) project. These initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to improving nutrition and supporting agricultural sustainability.
