Significant Growth Reflects Robust Market Expansion and Export Diversity

Cambodia has experienced a remarkable surge in agricultural exports during the first half of 2024, marking a substantial increase from the previous year. According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), the country exported 6.13 million tonnes of agricultural products, representing a 57 percent rise compared to 3.9 million tonnes in the same period last year. This surge in exports generated USD 2.85 billion in revenue, indicating a nearly 19 percent increase from USD 2.4 billion in the corresponding period in 2023.

The exported agricultural commodities from Cambodia encompass a diverse range, including rice, rubber, cassava, mangoes, fresh bananas, pepper, cashew nuts, longan, corn, and palm oil. Key markets for these products include neighboring countries such as Vietnam and Thailand, as well as major Asian markets like China and South Korea.

The agricultural sector plays a crucial role in Cambodia’s economy, complementing other key sectors such as garment and footwear exports, tourism, and construction. Minister Dith Tina of MAFF emphasized Cambodia’s achievement in ensuring food security while producing agricultural products that exceed domestic demand for export purposes.

In 2023, Cambodia exported over eight million tonnes of agricultural goods, generating close to USD 5 billion in revenue, underscoring the sector’s pivotal contribution to the national economy.
