Agricultural and Transportation Ministers Meet Local Officials in Nova Zagora

Today, June 14, 2024, Bulgaria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food, Dr. Georgi Tahov, and Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Gvozdeikov, are set to visit one of the areas most severely impacted by yesterday’s hailstorm—Nova Zagora Municipality in the Sliven Province. At 3:30 PM, the ministers will meet with Mayor Galya Zaharieva at the municipal building to discuss the extent of the damage and strategize relief efforts.

The recent hailstorm has caused significant damage to the agricultural sector, with crops and infrastructure severely affected. The visit by the ministers aims to provide support to the local authorities and farmers, ensuring that adequate measures are taken to mitigate the impact of the natural disaster. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to promptly addressing the challenges faced by the agricultural community and supporting the restoration of normalcy in the affected areas.

During the visit, the ministers will engage with local farmers and residents to understand their immediate needs and concerns. This direct interaction is crucial for developing effective strategies that align with the specific requirements of those impacted. The discussions will focus on providing emergency aid, facilitating repairs, and exploring long-term solutions to enhance the resilience of the region’s agricultural infrastructure.

Dr. Georgi Tahov emphasized the importance of swift and coordinated action to support the farming community. “Our priority is to ensure that the affected areas receive the necessary assistance promptly. We are committed to working closely with local authorities and stakeholders to address the damage and implement measures that will help prevent such extensive damage in the future.”

Minister Georgi Gvozdeikov highlighted the role of the transportation sector in the recovery process. “Efficient transportation and communication channels are vital for delivering aid and supporting recovery efforts. We will assess the damage to infrastructure and ensure that repairs are expedited to facilitate the smooth movement of resources and support services.”
