New InVigor Hybrids Offer Enhanced Flexibility and Yield Potential for Canola Growers
BASF is set to enhance its InVigor canola lineup for the 2025 growing season with the introduction of two new hybrid varieties, building on the success of their initial triple-trait variety launched last spring. The expanded InVigor range promises canola growers across all regions improved yield potential and greater flexibility in crop management.
The new varieties, InVigor LR 3540P and InVigor LR 5040P, complement the existing InVigor LR 4540P by offering a broader selection of maturity options. The LR 3540P features a 3.5 early maturity rating, while the LR 5040P is rated at 5.0 for mid-maturity, providing growers with more choices to match their specific growing conditions.
BASF’s InVigor hybrid canola-breeding program combines several key traits to deliver high performance:
- PodGuard Shatter-Tolerance: This trait reduces the risk of seed loss during harvest, allowing growers to let their crop stand longer and potentially direct-head it with minimal yield loss.
- LibertyLink: This trait provides flexibility in herbicide application, enabling the use of Liberty glufosinate-ammonium herbicide to control glyphosate-resistant and other difficult weeds.
- TruFlex: Featuring glyphosate resistance, TruFlex varieties are known for their high yield potential and adaptability.
Parvana Wali, Head of BASF Agricultural Solutions Australia and New Zealand, highlighted the advantages of the new InVigor varieties. “TruFlex varieties have always been valued for their high yield potential. Our new varieties not only maintain that high potential but also add substantial flexibility in herbicide management and harvest timing.”
The introduction of the new hybrids follows the positive reception of the InVigor LR 4540P, which performed exceptionally well in high rainfall areas. With the expanded range, BASF aims to provide growers with options that suit varying climatic and agronomic conditions, enhancing their ability to achieve strong returns on investment.
