In 2012, Li Gangling founded the Mengbei brand in northern Inner Mongolia, driven by a vision to produce the purest, most natural oats for humanity. His mission was clear: to create the healthiest food and promote a lifestyle that respects and aligns with nature. This article explores Li Gangling’s journey, challenges, and the innovative agricultural practices that ultimately led to his success.

Li’s approach to oat cultivation was revolutionary. He leased over 20,000 acres of pristine grassland, determined to grow oats without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. His method, focusing on natural growth, perplexed local farmers and experts, who believed it was impossible to achieve high yields without chemicals.

According to the World Health Organization and the United Nations Environment Programme, over a million people suffer from pesticide poisoning annually, with around 100,000 fatalities. Li was adamant that chemical-free farming was essential for producing truly healthy oats. Despite the skepticism, he was convinced that his natural oats would stand out in the market.

However, the reality of Li’s first harvest in 2013 was harsh. His fields were overrun with weeds, and the oats were barely distinguishable. The initial failure was a sobering experience, but it did not deter him. Instead, Li sought advice from local agricultural experts, maintaining his commitment to natural methods.

In 2014, he expanded his oat fields to over 40,000 acres, experimenting with a chaotic sowing pattern to outcompete the weeds. Yet again, the result was disappointing, with fields more filled with weeds than oats. This setback led to self-doubt and public ridicule, but Li’s resolve was unshaken.

Li Gangling’s perseverance paid off in 2015 when he finally saw a successful harvest. The natural methods began to yield results, producing over 1,000 tons of oats. His innovative techniques, such as crop rotation, wide row planting, and straw incorporation, formed the foundation of the Mengbei agricultural method, now recognized for its sustainability.

From 2016 onwards, Li expanded his oat cultivation to 110,000 acres, making it the largest natural oat farming base globally. In 2017, his efforts were acknowledged with the “China Eco-Origin Product” certification, followed by organic certifications from the US, EU, and China in 2018.

Li’s dedication extended to the processing stage, where he faced significant challenges in preserving the nutritional value of the oats without additives. Conventional high-temperature processing methods were unsuitable as they degraded the oats’ nutrients. After extensive research and collaboration with experts, Li’s team developed a low-temperature processing technology that retained the oats’ natural properties.

In 2018, the Mengbei natural oat product was officially launched, receiving widespread acclaim. The oats were praised for their purity and nutritional value, setting a new standard in the industry. Today, Mengbei’s products are available in over 260 high-end supermarkets across the globe and are used by numerous baby food manufacturers.

Li Gangling’s journey from a visionary farmer to a celebrated agricultural pioneer is a testament to the power of conviction and resilience. His work has not only revolutionized oat farming but also highlighted the importance of sustainable agricultural practices for human health and environmental conservation.

Li Gangling’s relentless pursuit of natural and healthy oat production demonstrates that sustainable agriculture is not only possible but also essential for future food security. His innovative practices and unwavering commitment serve as an inspiration for farmers, agronomists, and agricultural scientists worldwide. As the global community increasingly recognizes the importance of eco-friendly farming, Li Gangling’s achievements underscore the potential for harmony between agriculture and nature.
