In a significant move towards enhancing traceability and transparency in agricultural practices, Russia’s Unified Federal Information System for Agricultural Lands (ЕФГИС ЗСН) has mandated the inclusion of seed information from the Federal State Information System “Semenovodstvo” starting this month. This integration aims to streamline the process of crop rotation planning and ensure accurate tracking of seed usage across the agricultural sector.​

Integration Details

The ЕФГИС ЗСН platform now requires users to specify the seed material utilized when creating crop rotations classified under “sowing/planting.” According to a representative from the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, both information systems have been integrated to facilitate this process. To establish a crop rotation, enterprises must first input their available seed volumes into the “Semenovodstvo” system. Subsequently, they should transfer the necessary sowing volume data to ЕФГИС ЗСН, where they can allocate seeds to specific fields. Post-harvest, information regarding seeds designated for future sowing will flow from ЕФГИС ЗСН back to “Semenovodstvo.” Conversely, if seeds are intended for commercial purposes (e.g., food or feed), the volume data will be directed to the Federal State Information System “Grain” (ФГИС «Зерно»). ​

Data Entry Procedures

To implement this integration effectively, agricultural producers must adhere to the following steps:​

  1. Seed Batch Formation: Initially, seed batches should be created within the “Semenovodstvo” system, detailing the quantities and characteristics of the seeds.​
  2. Data Transfer: The seed information is then transmitted to the ЕФГИС ЗСН platform.​
  3. Field Boundary Verification: Users must verify and, if necessary, correct the boundaries of their fields within ЕФГИС ЗСН to ensure accurate mapping.​
  4. Crop Rotation Creation: With accurate field data, users can proceed to establish crop rotations. The system will automatically reflect the seed information for each field, provided it has been correctly transferred from “Semenovodstvo.”​

This integration presents several implications for various stakeholders:​

  • Farmers and Agronomists: Enhanced accuracy in crop rotation planning and seed usage tracking can lead to improved crop management and yield predictions.​
  • Agricultural Engineers and Farm Owners: Streamlined data management processes can reduce administrative burdens and facilitate compliance with regulatory requirements.​
  • Scientists: Access to comprehensive seed usage data can support research in crop improvement and sustainable agricultural practices.​

The mandatory integration of seed information into Russia’s ЕФГИС ЗСН system marks a pivotal step towards comprehensive digitalization in agriculture. By ensuring meticulous tracking of seed usage, this initiative is poised to enhance transparency, optimize crop management, and bolster the overall efficiency of the agricultural sector.​
