Russia has significantly bolstered its agricultural exports to the Persian Gulf countries, achieving a 10% increase in trade volume. This growth underscores the deepening food trade relations between Russia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, enhancing regional food security and economic collaboration.

Expanding Trade Relations

At the Gulfood 2025 International Food Exhibition in Dubai, Russian Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut inaugurated the Russian pavilion, featuring 115 domestic companies specializing in grain, oil and fat products, meat, and dairy. This marks Russia’s tenth participation in the event, highlighting its commitment to the Middle Eastern market. Lut emphasized Russia’s readiness to strengthen partnerships with GCC countries, aiming to enhance food security in the region.

Key Partnerships and Negotiations

During the exhibition, Minister Lut met with Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al-Fares, head of Saudi Arabia’s General Food Security Organization. The discussions focused on developing joint projects and expanding trade relations. In 2024, agricultural trade turnover between Russia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) increased by 30%, with Russian exports doubling in January 2025 compared to the same month the previous year. Russia primarily supplies the UAE with cereals, legumes, and meat products, including halal-certified items. There is potential to broaden exports to include meat, dairy products, and beverages.

Strategic Growth and Future Prospects

Russia’s agricultural sector has demonstrated robust growth, with exports reaching a record $43.5 billion in 2023. Analysts project that with continued investment and diversification, Russian agricultural exports could rise to $65–70 billion annually in the medium term. The GCC market remains a strategic focus due to its high demand for imported agricultural products, presenting opportunities for Russia to further expand its export portfolio.

The 10% increase in Russia’s agricultural exports to the Persian Gulf signifies a strengthening alliance aimed at enhancing food security and economic cooperation. Ongoing dialogues and strategic initiatives are poised to further solidify Russia’s role as a key food supplier in the Middle East.
