As October rolls in, Yicheng farmers are deep into the winter wheat planting season, harnessing optimal weather and advanced agricultural technology. This year, farmers in Liushui Town are taking advantage of soil moisture from recent rains, which creates ideal conditions for planting. With their sights set on a fruitful 2024 harvest, farmers are using specialized planting machines that ensure wheat seeds are well-positioned for growth, and the process is faster and more efficient than traditional methods.

In Yangpeng Village, winter wheat planting has become a coordinated and streamlined process. As planting machines crisscross fields, seeds are evenly and efficiently placed in moist, fertile soil, presenting a hopeful start for the coming season. According to Yang Guoming, a local official in charge of agricultural coordination in the area, the rainfall days prior created perfect soil conditions. To take advantage, farmers have mobilized additional workers and equipment to complete the planting of over 100 acres in a single day. This organized approach is becoming more common across the region, with farmers eagerly seizing every available planting day to maximize yields.

Meanwhile, farmers in neighboring Liutai Village are also seeing success with an integrated seeding and fertilizing system. This system combines seed planting with fertilizer application in one pass, effectively enhancing planting speed and boosting efficiency. Villager Wang Wei shares, “Our goal this year is to plant 300 acres of wheat. So far, we’ve planted over 100 acres, all using mechanized systems. Seeds, fertilizer, and soil compression are handled simultaneously, allowing us to increase both yield and efficiency.”

Liushui Town aims to plant approximately 110,000 acres of wheat this season, a target that will be largely supported by technological advancements in planting. “It’s essential to complete high-standard planting work at this stage,” says Rao Chuanbo, an assistant agronomist at the Liushui Agricultural Technology Center. “We’re encouraging farmers to seize the time window and ensure that seeds are planted with sufficient soil moisture. This boosts seed quality and planting success, laying a solid foundation for a strong crop next year. We’ll also provide field management, technical assistance, and pest and disease prevention support to ensure a safe winter for the wheat crop and set up for a bountiful summer harvest.”

The adoption of advanced agricultural technologies in Yicheng is proving transformative for wheat planting and is paving the way for higher yields and improved planting efficiency. By integrating processes and optimizing soil and weather conditions, farmers are not only enhancing productivity but also setting a high standard for future planting seasons. These technological strides highlight the potential of modern agriculture to meet production targets sustainably, ensuring food security in the region.
