Specialists from the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Rosselkhoztsentr” in the Krasnoyarsk Krai have completed the evaluation of annual and perennial grasses and summarized the results. This year, agricultural experts focused on assessing the varieties of grasses that are of significant importance to the region’s agriculture.

Annual Grasses: Sudan Grass Variety Kinelskaya 100

This season, among the annual grasses, the Sudan grass variety Kinelskaya 100 stood out as the most in demand and the only one in the sowing structure. Sown over an area of 127 hectares in the Bolshoi Ului district, Sudan grass has shown excellent results. It gained popularity due to its high productivity and resilience to adverse conditions.

Perennial Grasses: Increased Areas and Variety of Varieties

This year, the total area of evaluated perennial leguminous and cereal grasses reached 3,947 hectares, which is 54.5% more compared to 2023. The majority of the work was carried out in the Shushensky (1,000 ha), Uzhursky (775 ha), Emelyanovsky (745 ha), Bolshoi Ului (453 ha), and Kuraginsky (348 ha) districts.

Of the total sown areas, 82% were allocated to leguminous grasses, such as sainfoin, clover (both meadow and creeping), alfalfa, sainfoin, and galega (Gallega orientalis). Cereal grasses occupied 18% of the area. Among the perennial leguminous grasses, the largest area was dedicated to alfalfa (48.2%), while among the perennial cereal grasses, smooth bromegrass accounted for 12.8%.

Variety of Varieties: Alfalfa and Sainfoin

This year, specialists evaluated 27 varieties of perennial grasses. Alfalfa and sainfoin showed the greatest variety of varieties. For alfalfa, one of the most common crops in the region, 7 varieties of domestic selection were used, all adapted to the region. The most popular varieties, Vega 87 and Sarga, occupied about 70% of the sowing area this year.

Sainfoin was represented by 5 varieties, all of domestic selection, with 3 of them adapted to the region. This emphasizes the significance of domestic varieties in the region’s agro-industrial complex.

Leader Among Cereals: Variety of Smooth Bromegrass

Among the varieties of smooth bromegrass, the SIBNIISKHOS 189 remains the undisputed leader for several years. This variety occupied 80% of the evaluated areas in 2024. It is noted for its high forage and seed productivity, good regrowth in spring and after mowing, making it popular among the region’s agricultural producers.

Results of the Evaluation and Inspection

All currently inspected perennial grass sowings have been deemed suitable. The levels of contamination and pest and disease damage have not been exceeded. Based on the results of the inspections, certificates of evaluation have been issued to agricultural producers, confirming the high quality and durability of the sowings.

Thus, the evaluation of annual and perennial grasses in the Krasnoyarsk Krai has yielded positive results and confirmed high varietal quality, which will undoubtedly have a beneficial impact on the region’s agriculture.
