Soy, Meat, Sugarcane-Alcohol Complex, Forest Products, and Coffee Lead the Way
Brazilian agribusiness exports surged to $15.20 billion in June 2024, marking an increase from May’s $15.02 billion. The month saw notable performances from key sectors including soy, meat, sugarcane-alcohol complex, forest products, and coffee.
In June 2024, Brazilian grain exports rose to 15.07 million tons, a 0.7% increase from June 2023. Additionally, significant volume increases were noted in sugarcane (+335.1 thousand tons), cellulose (+182.8 thousand tons), non-carded non-combed cotton (+100.1 thousand tons), soybean meal (+84.0 thousand tons), and green coffee (+64.6 thousand tons). Overall, the quantity index for agribusiness exports showed a positive 4.5% growth.
“The growth in exports during the first half of 2024 reflects not only the excellence of our products but also record market openings and ongoing dialogues with other countries. Government incentives and sectoral support have been crucial in demonstrating the strength and competitiveness of Brazilian agribusiness on the global stage, alongside the quality and rigorous sanitary control of our products,” emphasized Roberto Perosa, Secretary of Trade and International Relations at the Ministry of Agriculture.
Over the last 12 months, agribusiness exports totaled $166.20 billion, a 2.4% increase compared to the previous year. From July 2023 to June 2024, agribusiness products represented 48.6% of all Brazilian exports, a 0.2 percentage point rise from the previous period.
Highlights of Brazilian Agribusiness Products: In the first half of 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled $82.39 billion, the second-highest recorded figure in history.
The top five sectors contributing significantly to exports were soy ($33.53 billion), meats ($11.81 billion), sugarcane-alcohol complex ($9.22 billion), forest products ($8.34 billion), and coffee ($5.31 billion). Together, these sectors accounted for 82.8% of Brazilian agribusiness exports.
Meat exports, the second-largest sector, grew by 1.6% compared to 2023, reaching $11.81 billion. Beef stood out, representing 48.1% of exports at $5.14 billion, an 18.3% increase. Record exports of 1.14 million tons of fresh beef were noted, marking a 29.1% growth.
The sugarcane-alcohol complex saw exports rise from $5.99 billion in 2023 to $9.22 billion in 2024, a 54.1% increase. Sugar, the sector’s main product, reached $8.66 billion, a 62.8% increase. Raw sugarcane exports were also at record highs, both in value ($7.21 billion) and quantity (14.33 million tons).
Forest products recorded an 11.9% growth, totaling $8.34 billion. Cellulose contributed $4.97 billion, a 19.5% increase, with nearly 10 million tons exported, a 3.1% rise.
The coffee sector excelled with exports totaling $5.31 billion, marking a 46.1% increase in value and 52.1% in quantity compared to the previous year.
Other noteworthy performances included non-carded non-combed cotton, reaching a record $2.68 billion (up 236%) with 1.39 million tons exported (up 228%), and orange juice, hitting $1.25 billion in exports (up 24%).
